Known far and wide for its camellias, Odongdo Island is without doubt the most beautiful tourist spot in Yeosu. Odongdo Island was designated as part of the Hallyeo Waterway in 1968. It offers a wonderful view and idyllic natural settings as it is home to 193 rare species of trees and is bordered by towering cliffs and peculiarly-shaped rocks. This beautiful island is connected to the shore by a 768-meter-long.

11.7 meter-wide breakwater. It was once a navy base where Admiral Yi Sun-Sin himself put his command through raining. The piping sound emanating from the bamboo groves on windy days still harkens back to the cry of the forces who trained there at the time of the Japanese invasion in 1592. The island has spawned a number of legends as well. According to one, the camellia, which blossoms in early spring, symbolizes a woman's chastity.
